John Watson

stern Broadus Watson was born in Travelers, South Carolina on January 9, 1878 to Emma Watson and Pickens Watson. sewer was the 4th Child out of 6 children in the Watson family. Watson experience was a religious woman and wanted more than of all beat for trick to become a minster. bottoms father was know as a lazy, and delinquent man. Pickens left the family to be raised by their mother when John was a youngster. John married his reason classmate, which he met while understanding the University of Chicago. Her name was Mary Ickes and they had 2 children together named Mary and John. John started work at Furman University in 1894 at the young age of 16. He was known at the school as a nonconformist and was not a bright student in his studies. Some of his concluding grades were in the few psychology classes that he did take in his academics. John failed his senior year at Furman and was forced to attend a 5th year at Furman. In 1950 the Psychology students started a journal and dedicated the 1st issue to John Watson. Upon his mother death shortly after his graduation from Furman John enrolled into the University of Chicago to purse his passion in Philosophy and have his studies in Ministry.



He arrived at the University of Chicago with $50.00 in his poke and found side jobs ranging from a janitor, rat keeper, and a waiter to make money to stay in school. While at that place John started to study philosophy under John Dewey. John claimed he could never understand the man and eventually went on to study for his PHD under James Rolland Angell instead in observational psychology. In 1903 John graduated with his PHD from the University of Chicago and at the time was the youngest to ever receive a PHD from the school. John stayed at the school upon graduation for 5 more years as Angells assistant and eventually as a faculty member.
