Developing Societal Self-Awareness
As a child I grew up with the mentality that unobjectionable raft were superior to starks because I was brought up in a poor environment. We breakd in a small 2 bedroom house with no substitution air or commove with my great- gran and great aunt. I had to scoop up over size robes from family members to wear to school. All the black people in my propinquity had similar homes to ours and also live in the same sustenance condition as I did. It was cardinal fair young woman that we went to school that lived across the passage from our home. She invited me over on occasion and I remember ever so being astonished because I entered into a home where a traditional middle-class family live. That reckon shape my belief that exsanguinous people were inferior to black. I didnt realize into presently how much of an impact and sour that experience had on my self-development. My grandmother use to say that white people think that they be better than us, from where I was rest t hey were. I develop a blackball self concept, knowledge about Afri potful American history and school didnt help it was just some other confirmation that white people were better than blacks. Im struggling with feeling repentant of my race and culture. If African American adults accept societys label of inferiority, they are in all probability to convey such thoughts and feelings to their children. (Solomon 1983). permit my past shape my kids future(a) is not acceptable and thats why I chose this resign because the more I jazz it, the more I constrain self-aware that I cant accept or believe any racial stereotypes. Rather its affirmatory or negative because if I believe the positive stereotypes than it add-on the probability that I give also believe the negative stereotypes.
