Eventually, the two leadership, Kennedy (US), and Khrushchev (USSR), came to an agreement that the USSR would withdraw the missiles if the US promised not to invade Cuba. US got the missiles out of Cuba, Cuba got the US (kinda) off their backs, and the USSR got missiles out of Turkey.
