Henry David Thoreau was a philosopher and writer best known for his attacks on American social institutions. Thoreau laid a lot of mark on individuality and egotism reliance. He himself observed self disobedience in his own life for not having gainful poll taxes and spent a night in jail. He wrote Civil Disobedience where he delivered it as an oration to the adjudge Lyceum in 1848.
Thoreau when he ran into the tax collector he was very upset when he was asked to pay six historic period of poll taxes. He refused to pay them because of his opposition to the Mexican-American war and bondage and because of this he spent a night in jai until he was bailed out. He also wanted to tell the muckle that they cannot whang the Southerners for proslavery but instead one should place the blame on for instance Massachusetts who are more interested in commerce and agriculture than they are in humanity and accordingly are not ready to do justice to slaves and to Mexico.




Thoreau states as a nation it is very important that a governance is best when it gives rights to the people to do what they want to do alternatively than be seen governing the nation. He continues a government should be present and stand beside the people. This is useful in helping the realm to be free, settle the West or educate. He states people would have been more successful had the involvement of the government been little involved.
