Thomas Hardy - the Bay Analysis

How does James K. Baxter present the theme of nostalgia in The Bay? Joel Zanzuri In my view, the theme of nostalgia is immediately presented in the first stanza where Baxter simply describes his puerility memories, On the road to the bay was a lake full of rushes. Here, the memories await to be nostalgic and even showing a impression of vague and atoneful longing. This is enhanced when he makes the comparison with the present, at a time it is rather to stand and stay. Baxter creates a olfactory modality of regret or even sorrow towards these joyful times, therefore i presume he is implicitly stating how different and distressing his life history may be now at the present. However, the memories are by chance not so simple, How many roads that lead to nowhere, In this line I continuously receive this feeling of remorse since the poet reminds me that in our lifes we make many wrong decisions in the line Not the veritable garden where everything comes easy.
