College essay topics

Any essay must have a topic or topics. College papers are not an exception. They must have essay topics like any other papers. College essay topics are central and vital to the essays. Like in any other essay, in a college essay, the reader first expects to read a topic before proceeding to the body of the essay.

The essay topic of a college essay must first inform the reader what the essay is about. However, since the topic may not cover the entire or all ideas of the essay, the key or main idea that the paper addresses is captured in the topic. An essay topic can never cover all the ideas in the paper because of the summarative and precision requirement that are laid for essay topics. Thus, topics should try to summarize the paper or essay in just a few words.

This requirement of a few words or precision in topics is what calls for the capturing of the main idea in the essay. This idea is what the reader is interested in and by giving it in the essay topics; the reader knows about the essay and makes the decision of whether or not to read it. An essay will not just have one topic (though this is normal); but in most cases, a long essay will have the main topic and supportive or sub topics.

The main topic must capture the subject matter of the entire essay while the sub topics break the essay into different but related parts. This is usually because reading a very long essay under one topic would usually be difficult and boring for the reader. This is why sub topics or supportive essay topics are important in an essay. Essay topics are the ‘gate’ to an essay. Because of this fact, they have to be written well, in an interesting way that adds flavor to the reader. When readers read essay topics, they should get entertained to read the entire essay thus.
